Liquor worth Rs 8.53 cr, Rs 54 lakh cash seized since imposition of model code in K'taka: CEO

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], March 15 (ANI): Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Kumar on Friday informed that Rs 54 lakh in cash and liquor worth Rs 8.53 crore were seized in the state since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], March 15 (ANI): Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Kumar on Friday informed that Rs 54 lakh in cash and liquor worth Rs 8.53 crore were seized in the state since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Addressing a media briefing, Kumar said, "Total cash seizure till date (since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct ) is Rs 54 lakh. Liquor worth Rs 8.53 crore was also seized. We have also seized 650 gm of gold and 40 kg silver. As many as 1,818 excise cases have been registered in the state."
Kumar also said that citizens can use the C-vigil app to report the violation of MCC.
"C- vigil app has been launched. It is an online application for citizens to report on MCC violations. Complaints can be sent through it and adequate staff is deployed to enforce the model code. This app is active since March 10 and till now 186 complaints have been received," he added.
Kumar also pointed out that there was a serious issue with complaints being received through the C-vigil app as over 100 false complaints were received through it.
"We received 111 false complaints. We have acted on 45 cases and 30 cases are being investigated," he said.
Election Commission of India (ECI) had on March 10 announced the schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election, which will be held in seven phases beginning April 11. The final phase of voting will take place on May 19. The counting of votes will be done on May 23. (ANI)
