LG announces crackdown on old vehicles, ban on firecrackers

New Delhi [India], Nov. 7 (ANI): To tackle the rising air pollution in the national capital, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday ordered to deregister all the diesel vehicles which are 15-year-old or more.

New Delhi [India], Nov. 7 (ANI): To tackle the rising air pollution in the national capital, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday ordered to deregister all the diesel vehicles which are 15-year-old or more. The LG directed the Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporations to implement action plan which includes Deregistration of 15 year old diesel vehicles starting from today. The LG instructed all the agencies to strictly implement immediate measures required to mitigate air Pollution in Delhi. "Vehicles older than 15 years will be deregistered, trucks not destined for Delhi will be barred from entering the city and construction and demolition of buildings will not be allowed from November 7 to 14 November 2016," Jung said. Besides these, the LG also asked the MCD to take all possible measures to control fire in Bhalaswa and extended the halt on construction activities up to November 14, including ban on crackers in Delhi, other than religious functions. Jung's announcement come a day after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced similar measures - including the temporary closure of schools, banning of construction work, shutting down the Badarpur power plant - to bring down particulate pollution in the city's air.
