New Delhi [India], October 8 (ANI): Days, after the Enforcement Directorate arrested AAP MP Sanjay Singh for his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy scam, former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and BJP leader Jairam Thakur on Sunday, said that the action against the AAP leader must have been taken on the basis of evidence.
"...One thing should be clear that law will take its own course. If action has been taken against him, it must have been based on some evidence. The party that said it would end corruption has become one of the most corrupt party..." Jairam Thakur said while speaking to ANI.
The ED on Wednesday evening arrested Sanjay Singh after a day-long questioning by the ED officials at his Delhi residence.
Later, on Thursday, the Court sent Sanjay Singh to remand till October 10, 2023, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also allegedly involved in the same liquor policy scam. He is currently lodged in jail in connection with the same. The former Delhi Deputy CM and excise minister was first arrested by the CBI on February 26 for his alleged role in the scam.
The case connects with claims that Singh and his partners played a part in the Delhi government's decision to give licenses to alcohol shops and merchants in 2020, causing losses to the state exchequer and violating anti-corruption laws.
ED has so far filed five charge sheets in the case, including against Sisodia.
Meanwhile, an application was moved on behalf of Sanjay Singh saying that the Enforcement Directorate officials tried to shift from the premises of ED to Police Station Tughlak Road on purported grounds where he could be tortured.
However, the federal agency informed Delhi's Rouse Avenue District Court on Saturday that it has no intention of shifting Sanjay Singh to the lockup of Tughlak Road Police Station since the pest control work in the ED office's lockup is completed. (ANI)
