Law should be framed regarding 'Vande Mataram': Uddhav Thackeray
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 13 (ANI): Amid the intensifying debate over making singing the National Song compulsory, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said it is important to frame a law regarding 'Vande Mataram', instead of politicising the issue. "People should say 'Vande Mataram' everyday. Law should be farmed regarding it, instead of doing politics over it," Thackeray said, while addressing a gathering here. Thackeray also targetted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and asked whether it would take any action against their own minister making controversial remarks over the same. "Will BJP remove those ministers from the party who said that a person cannot be termed as anti-national if they don't say 'Vande Mataram'?" he asked without taking any name. Earlier on Thursday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to make the singing of Vande Mataram compulsory in all BMC-run schools. Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar said, in a statement, that all the BMC-run schools will have to sing 'Vande Mataram' twice a week. The proposal will be sent to the Maharashtra Government for a final approval. This comes after the Madras High Court had in July ordered the singing of the national song in all educational institutions at least once in a week. (ANI)
