Law Commission's questionnaire "loaded in favour" of Uniform Civil Code: Owaisi

Hyderabad [India], Oct. 13 (ANI): AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said the questionnaire prepared by the Law Commission is "loaded in favour" of the Uniform Civil Code, adding the imposition of the same will destroy the nation's diversity and pluralism. "India's soul is in its diversity. And if in the name of Uniform Civil Code, you will impose something then it will destroy the diversity and pluralism of India because you are seeing it from the view point of the Muslims. I think it is wrong because the Muslims, Dalits and Tribals are also a part of India's diversity and pluralism," Owaisi told the media here. "The people, who are supporting the Uniform Civil Code, are not understanding the power and beauty of India. After every 200-300 kms, the culture is different. Imposing single ideology is very difficult which is not going to happen," he added. The AIMIM chief further said he feels that the questionnaire is loaded in favour of Uniform Civil code. "Our party has taken a decision to reply to questionnaire of the Law Commission. However, it should have been more objective," he said. The Law Commission has sought public opinion on the exercise of reforming family laws of all religions. The Commission has reportedly appealed to members of religious, minority and social groups besides non-government organisations to present their views through a questionnaire on a range of issues, including the practice of triple talaq, the right to property for a woman citizen and polygamy.(ANI)
