Kodagu (Karnataka) [India], April 14 (ANI): Reacting to the alleged remarks made by JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy that "rural women are going astray" over Congress guarantees, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that remarks by Kumaraswamy are an insult to mothers and sisters of the state.
"I won't seek an apology from him but seek an explanation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani," DK Shivakumar said while speaking to reporters after a campaign rally.
DK Shivakumar further claimed that women in Karnataka are upset about the statement of the JD(S) leader and are planning to protest against him.
"Kumaraswamy has said that rural women are going astray due to the guarantee schemes of the Congress government. He has insulted our mothers and sisters. Women of our state are self-respecting people and they are very upset at Kumaraswamy's statement. They are planning a major protest against him and we won't come in the way. We encourage them to take up their fight within the legal boundaries," he said.
"Our government has launched five fuarantee schemes to improve the lives of women and make them self-reliant. Women are able to save about Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 per month. And they are able to help their families and children with this savings. Kumaraswamy's statement is an insult to the hardworking women," he added.
Asked where the government is getting money for guarantee schemes, the Deputy Chief Minister said, "We have saved a lot of money by stopping corruption in the State and the same money is being used for the guarantee schemes."
The BJP released its "Sankalp Patra" on Sunday at its headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in its election manifesto, has promised a time-to-time hike in the MSP if elected to power for the third term.
The BJP unveiled its election manifesto with a slew of promises for farmers, such as strengthening PM KISAN, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, and news clusters for vegetable production and storage, among others. (ANI)
