Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 10 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has filed a criminal defamation case against Minister Konda Surekha, seeking criminal action as per the law, said a press release from his office.
The criminal case was filed today in the Nampally Court.
KTR has sought criminal action against Surekha, citing her baseless and malicious remarks aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
Earlier, KTR had issued a legal notice to Konda Surekha, demanding a public apology for her defamatory statements. Despite this, Konda Surekha did not retract her comments, which led to legal escalation. KTR, in his plea, emphasized that such actions cannot go unchecked, as they not only cause personal damage but also undermine reputation, the release said.
KTR highlighted that this is not the first time Konda Surekha has indulged in such defamatory actions. He reminded the court that Surekha had previously been reprimanded by the Election Commission for similar baseless remarks. Her repeated violations of decorum, he argued, reflect a deliberate attempt to harm his reputation through a pattern of malicious behavior.
According to the release, the BRS working president pointed out that her repeated, deliberate, and defamatory statements are not isolated incidents but part of a larger, orchestrated effort to damage his image and standing. He stressed that these actions must be viewed as criminal offenses under defamation laws and require appropriate legal consequences.
The release added, "In his statement, KTR detailed how Konda Surekha's remarks were made with conspiracy and malice, intending to harm his personal and professional reputation. These defamatory statements, KTR argued, are not just political jibes but calculated efforts to degrade his image in the eyes of the public. By filing this case, KTR seeks to establish accountability for such misconduct and deter future malicious campaigns."
Earlier, Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, sparked a major controversy after she linked actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's divorce to Bharat Rashtra Samiti Chief KT Rama Rao.
The Congress leader on October 2, alleged that KTR used to tap the phones of the actresses and blackmail them.
Speaking to media, Surekha said, "It is KT Rama Rao because of whom (actress) Samantha's divorce happened...He was a minister at that time and used to tap the phones of the actresses and then find their weaknesses to blackmail them...He used to make them drug addicts and then do this...Everyone knows this, Samantha, Naga Chaitanya, his family, everybody is aware that such a thing happened."
