Kolkata cleric receives 'death threat' after issuing fatwa against Sonu Nigam

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Apr 22 (ANI): Kolkata-based cleric Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, who issued a fatwa against singer Sonu Nigam, has alleged that he received death threats from an unknown person on his phone and has written to the Kolkata Commissioner of Police for an investigation.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Apr 22 (ANI): Kolkata-based cleric Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, who issued a fatwa against singer Sonu Nigam, has alleged that he received death threats from an unknown person on his phone and has written to the Kolkata Commissioner of Police for an investigation. He claimed that he received a text message, threatening the life of his family, if he dares to speak anything against Sonu Nigam. "How dare you to say anything against Sonu Nigam, whose is the pride of India. Listen carefully, if again you dare to speak like this to Sonu Nigam then I will shoot you and your family and no one can save you," read the threat issued to the cleric. He then proceeded to write a letter to the the Commissioner of Police, requesting him to order a thorough investigation and bring the culprit to justice. Following the 43-year-old-singer's controversial tweets against 'azaan', the Kolkata -based cleric issued a fatwa against the singer on Tuesday, responding to which Sonu Nigam got his head shaved on Wednesday. Nigam, lost several fans after he went on a religious rant, early in the morning. On being woken up to the sound of azaan, the singer took to twitter to slam the practice. Terming it as 'forced religiousness,' he tweeted, "God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India."
