New Delhi [India], February 13 (ANI): Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju has targeted leader Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders over their remarks on VD Savarkar and recalled that Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had described him as a "remarkable son of India."
Rijiju's remarks came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Marseille in France, a city where Sarvarkar attempted a courageous escape.
"Congress Party keeps insulting Veer Savarkar. Can Congress Party condemn Indira Gandhi for praising Veer Savarkar," Rijiju said on X, attaching letter sent by Indira Gandhi.
PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille.
In a post on X, he wrote, "Landed in Marseille. In India's quest for freedom, this city holds special significance. It was here that the great Veer Savarkar attempted a courageous escape. I also want to thank the people of Marseille and the French activists of that time who demanded that he not be handed over to British custody. The bravery of Veer Savarkar continues to inspire generations!"
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said that it was a "matter of pride" that PM Modi had visited Marseille, the city in southern France, which holds a place in India's freedom struggle.
Addressing a press conference, Raut said Veer Savarkar's contribution to India's freedom struggle should be remembered. (ANI)
