Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), [India] June 20 (ANI): It's just been few days that monsoon has finally struck Kerala, but it has brought along with it a host of diseases that have begun to claim lives in the state. Breeding of mosquitoes and lack of waste management for the disposal of solid waste have added to the woes of city dwellers, who are now battling the spreading 'fever season'. According to reports, over 100 people have lost their lives, as they succumbed to various diseases to H1N1, leptospirosis and dengue from January till date. This year the spreading viral scare has gripped Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Kollam, Palakkad and Malappuram districts Hundreds of people are flocking to hospitals with complaints of fever. Parts of the state, particularly capital city Thiruvananthapuram, has got into the viral fever's grip. Cases of dengue have also been reported from several places. So far, lakhs of people have sought treatment for the ailment throughout the state. Government has directed all local bodies to ensure their surroundings, especially their homes, are clean to prevent any vector borne diseases. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan called on all organisations and individuals to participate in the cleaning campaign. Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Kerala K K Shylaja, visited many district hospitals on Tuesday to analyse the situation and asserted patients not to panic as government is taking initiatives to control the circumstances.
