New Delhi [India], September 13 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha on Friday welcomed Arvind Kejriwal's bail and said that the party will be strengthened by his release. He added that Kejriwal will lead the election campaign in Haryana.
"This is a huge verdict. Arvind Kejriwal is going to return after a long struggle of 6 months. The last 6 months have been very challenging for AAP family, Kejriwal family and the whole of the INDIA Alliance. Finally, justice won and the SC has given a verdict in favour of Arvind Kejriwal... The AAP will be strengthened by his release. He will lead the election campaign in Haryana."
The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to the Delhi Chief Minister in a corruption case registered by CBI in the alleged excise policy scam. The Supreme Court said prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21, 2024, in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22. On June 26, 2024, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by CBI while he was in custody of the Enforcement Directorate in the excise case.
Speaking about the AAP-Congress alliance in Haryana, Chadha said that the people of Haryana are looking at governance in Delhi and Punjab, and they want an AAP government in Haryana.
"I have said this earlier also that we had an expectation and a wish to have an AAP-Congress alliance in Haryana and that the INDIA Alliance contested united. This was also the demand of the people of Haryana. But the talks did not conclude well... The people of Haryana are looking for an alternative... The people of Haryana are looking at the governance in Delhi and Punjab, and they want AAP government in Haryana," Chadha told ANI.
Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, and the last date for filing nominations is September 12. The counting of votes will be held on October 8.
In the 2019 assembly polls, the BJP became the single-largest party with 40 seats and Congress won 30 seats. (ANI)
