JP Nadda meets Ram Nath Kovind, suggests implementing "One Nation One Election"

New Delhi [India], February 20 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda on Tuesday met with former President and Chairman of the One Nation One Election Committee, Ram Nath Kovind, and submitted recommendations on behalf of the party.
JP Nadda stated that the implementation of 'One Nation One Election' would benefit the country in various ways.
One Nation One Election Committee, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, sought suggestions from all political parties in the country regarding conducting simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
During the meeting, JP Nadda provided suggestions on 'One Nation One Election' on behalf of his party.
Nadda stated that 'One Nation One Election' is not just a matter of debate but is a necessity for India today.
He emphasized the need to advance on this issue through deep deliberation, discussion, and study.
"It would be better for the election process if all political parties reached a common consensus on this issue. President Ram Nath Kovind, as the Chairman of the One Nation One Election Committee, is doing an excellent job in this direction," he said.
The BJP chief pointed out that due to the continuous elections in the country, there is an additional burden on the human resources of the country, which also increases the financial burden.
"Often, development work is also affected due to the election process. 'One Nation One Election' means that elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies will be held simultaneously across the country. After independence, elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies were held simultaneously in 1952, 1957, 1962, and 1967, but in 1968 and 1969, many state assemblies were dissolved prematurely," Nadda said.
"After that, in 1970, the Lok Sabha was also dissolved prematurely. Due to this, the tradition of one country, one election was broken. Once again, if 'One Nation One Election' is implemented by consensus, the country will benefit from it," he added.
The High-Level Committee relating to the holding of simultaneous elections in the country has initiated a consultation process under the chairmanship of Ram Nath Kovind.
The High-Level Committee recently also sought public opinion regarding the one nation, one election issue. The public notice issued stated, "Notice for inviting suggestions from members of the general public for making appropriate changes in the existing legal administrative framework to enable simultaneous elections in the country."
