Jharkhand teacher saving trees by tying Rakhis to them

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) [India], Oct. 8 (ANI): A teacher named Mahadeo Mahto from Doodhmatiya in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district started a campaign on Friday to celebrate environment week.

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) [India], Oct. 8 (ANI): A teacher named Mahadeo Mahto from Doodhmatiya in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district started a campaign on Friday to celebrate environment week. During the campaign, people were asked to tie Rakhis or a protective thread to save trees. The people of Hazaribagh gathered to protect and create awareness about environment with Mahto. Villagers from Jharkhand and other nearby areas engaged in various activities to make the environment green. This campaign is becoming increasingly popular in the region. First, only the people of that village was involved, later on other villages joined in it too, and Mahadev Mahato started pushing the campaign from one district to another. Mahato has iconic status due to his constant involvement with environmental causes. Therefore, an environment fair is held on October 7th every year in the area. People gather and attend this fair in thousands. A cycle rally was held on the occasion on Friday to create awareness. Men, women and children from the nearby villages offer prayers and worship the trees by tying a sacred thread o the trees to protect them. (ANI)
