Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 17 (ANI): A Bengaluru court on Thursday granted interim bail to Janata Dal (Secular) MLA and former Karnataka Minister HD Revanna in a sexual harassment case.
HD Revanna was granted bail till Friday, days after he secured a conditional bail in the kidnapping case linked to the 'obscene video' case.
The JD(S) MLA had filed a bail application in the sexual harassment case on Thursday.
The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM), while granting interim bail, said that the main bail plea will be heard on Friday at 3 pm.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) argued that the court should reject HD Revanna's bail plea.
SP Jayna Kothari sought judicial custody of the accused, HD Revanna, in the case. However, Revanna's lawyer, Arun, said, "This is a bailable case."
HD Revanna moved the bail application as a regular procedure, keeping in mind the FIR that charged him with sexual harassment.
The SIT immediately filed objections, claiming that rape charges are involved in the FIRs registered.
The defence of HD Revanna claimed that the rape charges are against Prajwal, not HD Revanna.
The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) stated that Revanna hasn't been cooperating with the investigation and demanded he be sent back to judicial custody.
The judge questioned the SPP as to why they would demand custody if Revanna wasn't cooperating with the investigation.
The defence maintained that Revanna faces bailable sections, and the SPP's arguments on section 376 are not maintainable.
HD Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, are facing a probe by an SIT constituted by the Karnataka government over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in their household.
Earlier on May 14, HD Revanna, who was arrested on charges of a kidnapping case linked to the 'obscene video' case, was released from Parappana Agrahara Jail after he was granted conditional bail by a special court for people's representatives.
The judge granted conditional bail to Revanna on a Rs 5 lakh bond.
He was arrested on May 4 by SIT officials in a kidnapping case registered against him at the KR Nagar police station in the city. (ANI)
