JD (U) for better coordination between central, state agencies post Kanpur train mishap
Patna (Bihar) [India], Jan 18 (ANI): With the Bihar Police claiming that Pakistan's ISI may be behind the Kanpur train mishap, the Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday called for better coordination between the central and state intelligence agencies. JD (U) leader Rajeev Ranjan told ANI that the Centre must in the wake of such cases allot a larger chunk for railway security in the Union Budget. "The ISIS involvement in the case shows there is a need to increase the security provisions. Safety of railways is important and more emphasis should be laid in surveillance," said Ranjan. "In the coming budget, the Narendra Modi government should look into the fact and cater to the same," he added while emphasizing on better coordination of intelligence agencies of the states and at the Centre. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) sleuths have reached Patna to carry forward the probe into the untoward incident. The Bihar Police's assertion came with arrest of three persons in East Champaran district of the state. During interrogation, the arrested persons have confessed to having been paid Rs. three lakh by a Nepalese citizen identified as Brajesh Giri allegedly connected with the ISI for planting a bomb on railway tracks at Ghorasahan in East Champaran district on October 1 last year to cause an accident. The Bihar Police has sought help of the Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing for further investigation in this regard. Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana said that the arrested persons have confessed to having worked for a Nepalese contact supposedly linked to the ISI to target the Indian Railways. The Indore-Patna train accident claimed lives of about 150 passengers. (ANI)
