Jayalalithaa critical: Venkaiah Naidu speaks to TN Governor, rushes to Chennai
New Delhi [India], Dec. 5 (ANI): The government on Monday swung into action following Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa critical health condition, as the Centre's top brass got in touch with the state governor C. Vidyasagar Rao and assured complete central assistance. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu spoke to the Governor and state Chief Secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao enquiring about her health and will also fly down to Chennai to assess the situation. Also, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke to the Governor in regard with the law and order situation in the state given the tense state of affairs regarding Jayalalithaa, and was assured that the situation was under control. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also assured Tamil Nadu government that the Centre is always willing to help if they require extra force in regards with maintaining law and order. Meanwhile, the special team of doctors from the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi reached Chennai. "We are in regular touch with the Apollo authorities in Chennai and at the same time with the Tamil Nadu government. Yesterday, we got the information and they had requested for doctors from All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and a team of doctors, Dr. Khilnani, Dr. Trikha, Dr. Narang and Dr. Talwar are leaving for Chennai and they will be supporting there," Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda told ANI earlier today. However, the frenzy over Jayalalithaa's critical heath seems to have begun as a distressed supporter died last night upon finding out Amma's status. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre Nelagandan from Cuddalore district Gandhi Nagar died yesterday night after seeing the news of Jayalalithaa's health on the television. Jayalalithaa continues to remain in a critical state after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening at the Apollo Hospital, where she has been admitted since September 22. A growing crowd of her supporters and AIADMK cadres have been thronging outside Apollo hospital and praying for her health. Security has been stepped up across the city to attend any eventuality and buses plying out of Chennai have been reduced and security in the capital has been tightened. Para military forces are also on standby to handle the crowd in case of any emergency. (ANI)
