New Delhi [India], Apr 22 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said Congress president Rahul Gandhi had a very low level of credibility, which has been eroded even further.
“When senior leaders like Congress president speaks then ordinarily their words must carry credibility. There is sanctity to every word they speak but of late he had made a daily routine of making recklessly false statements. He was wrong on several counts I have been pointing out in the past six months,” the Finance Minister said in a video posted on Twitter.
“The reality now is he had to express regret. While I don't wish to comment on matter pending before the Court, it is for the court to take a view. When public leaders express regret for his public statements that he lied to the people. It is an issue of credibility. He had a very low level of credibility which has been eroded even further,” he added.
Jaitley also criticised Congress for a statement made by P Chidambaram, who had stated that India needs to change its behaviour towards Pakistan to ensure peace in the region.
Congress leader Chidambaram made a statement that Pakistan will have to change its behaviour and so will India. I would like to address a few questions to the Congress party. What is it India has done that it must change its behaviour,” he said.
“Are we not right in complaining that Pakistan is sponsoring acts of terrorism in India? Are we not right in complaining that one-third of our territory in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been illegally occupied by Pakistan? Are we not right in complaining that almost every terrorist strike in the world has a Pakistani footprint? Where is India need to change its behaviour?” Jaitley asked.
Commenting on Indo-Pak relations, the Finance Minister said it is important that Pakistan accepts Kashmir as an integral part of India.
“Our stand is very clear that we want peace in the region and for that, it is essential that Pakistan accepts the identity of Kashmir as an integral part of India and that Pakistan stops permitting its soil to be used for terrorism so that the relations between two nations can be normalized,” he noted.
“What does Congress mean when they say India need to change its behaviour?” Jaitley asked.
On Sunday, Chidambaram had said, “We have to make Pakistan change its behaviour by changing our behaviour towards Islamabad to get peace. There have been talks of muscular policy and strong government in the past five years, but there were more infiltrations in 2018 than in the last 15 years.” (ANI)
