"Jai Jawan Jai Kisan": Congress leaders remember Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 60th death anniversary

New Delhi [India], January 11 (ANI): Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday paid her respects to freedom fighter and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 60th death anniversary.
She said the former Prime Minister had played an "extremely important" role in the country's independence and nation-building. She also emphasised the leader's inspiration, which moved the country's people towards unity and progress.
Highlighting the slogan raised by the former Prime Minister, "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan", Gandhi said that through this slogan, Lal Bahadur Shastri showed the path to security and prosperity for the country.
Through her X post, she said, "On the death anniversary of the great freedom fighter, former Prime Minister, former Union Home Minister, and Bharat Ratna recipient, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, I pay my humble respects to him. Shri Shastri ji played an extremely important role from the country's independence to its nation-building."
"He inspired the people of the country towards unity and progress. By giving the slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,' he showed the path to security and prosperity for the country. Shastri ji's diligence, humility, simplicity, and the spirit of service and dedication to the nation is an inspiration for all of us," Gandhi added.


Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his death anniversary. He said Shastri's message of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" continues to inspire the nation even today.
In a post on X, Kharge wrote, "On the death anniversary of former Prime Minister and our inspiration, Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, we pay our humble respects to him. Their message of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" continues to symbolise the nation's confidence, courage, labour, and service even today."
He added that in difficult times, he provided strong and skilful guidance to the country, strengthened respect for farmers, accelerated reforms and showed India's resolve during the 1965 war.
"In difficult times, he provided skilful leadership to the nation. He gave new strength to the respect for farmers, accelerated reforms, and showed direction to India's resolve in the 1965 war. His simple life and high ideals will remain an inspiration for every generation. Our heartfelt tribute," Kharge said.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri's leadership, reforms, and the lasting message of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan".
"Humble tributes to the steadfast former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his death anniversary. He guided India through challenging times with courage, implementing reforms that strengthened agriculture, improved nutrition, and reinforced national security. His slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" reflected his commitment to both soldiers and farmers, leaving a legacy of leadership that continues to inspire," Shivakumar said.
Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India, serving from 1964 to 1966. He died in Tashkent on January 11, 1966, at age 61, shortly after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan.
Former PM Shastri was a visionary leader who understood people's language and who led the country towards progress. (ANI)
