J-K LG Manoj Sinha appoints senior National Conference leader Mubarak Gul as pro-tem speaker

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appointed senior National Conference leader Mubarak Gul, who won the assembly election from Eidgah constituency, as pro-tem speaker.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], October 18 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appointed senior National Conference leader Mubarak Gul, who won the assembly election from Eidgah constituency, as pro-tem speaker.
In a letter dated October 18, LG Manoj Kumar said, "The Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, in pursuance to Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 appointed Mubarik Gul, Member Legislative Assembly as Speaker Protem before whom all the Members of the J&K Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe the oath/ affirmation in terms of Section 24 of aforesaid Act. The oath/ affirmation will be administered by him in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Srinagar on October 21, 2024 at 02:00 pm."
Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat Srinagar bulletin further requested members of the J&K Legislative Assembly to attend the Legislative Assembly for making and subscribing the oath on the scheduled date.
"All the Hon'ble Members of the J&K Legislative Assembly are accordingly requested to kindly make it convenient to attend the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for making and subscribing the oath/affirmation on the scheduled date and time," the bulletin added.
The NC-Congress alliance won the assembly polls in J-K held after a gap of ten years. JKNC won 42 seats while the Congress managed to win six.
A day after taking oath as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah on Thursday chaired his first cabinet meeting. The meeting was held at Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.
Omar Abdullah had earlier served as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2009 and 2014.
The NC-Congress alliance won the assembly polls in J-K held after a gap of ten years. JKNC won 42 seats while the Congress managed to win six.
The BJP put up an impressive performance, bagging 29 seats. The People's Democratic Party won three seats and one each by the People's Conference, CPI-M and AAP. Seven seats were also won by the Independents.
The results of the three-phased elections in Jammu and Kashmir were declared on October 8. This was the first election in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. (ANI)
