Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Jan. 20 (ANI): As the intense cold grips north India, Jammu and Kashmir has geared up to keep itself warm with 'Kangris' In order to battle against the crippling cold, people in Poonch district are using fire pots, which is an old traditional method of keeping oneself warm in the state. As a result, the district has experienced large fire pot sale. The traditional fire pots, known as 'Kangris', have been the most basic weapon of Kashmiris to fight winters. The earthenware, encased in wicker baskets, is like a portable and movable heater which Kashmiris keep in their long woollen cloak, to keep themselves warm during the frosty winters. Kangris can be ignited by just 250 grams of charcoal which is cheaper than oil, gas and wood-fired heaters. A seller of 'Kangris' said that he has been able to sell 10,000 fire pots till now. "The region is experiencing chilling cold due to which I have been able to sell 10,000 fire pots till now. All, be it children or aged, are using these pots to keep themselves warm," he said. No matter what, traditional things have their own place and always act as the better option available. (ANI)
