Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Nov. 17 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced a mass promotion for classes 5th to 9th and 11th and waive off term-2 exams for students of Classes 8, 9 and 11 of all government schools. As per reports, the government has also ordered continuation of "No-Detention" policy from classes 5 to 8 for the current academic session. The Jammu and Kashmir government decided to reopen schools in border areas from November 15, which were closed in the wake of escalation of tension and subsequent increase in the incidents of Pakistani shelling last week. Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr.Pawan Kotwal told the media that decision has been taken on consideration of the improvement in situation in border areas. Meanwhile, the annual Class 10th and 12th board examinations in the Valley began from November 14 and all arrangements have been put in place for the smooth conduct of the examinations. The state government had ordered on November 1 the closure of government schools in the border areas following repeated shelling and firing from Pakistan. On November 8, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had ordered the government to rope in village education committees to curb the burning of schools in Kashmir. A restive situation in the Kashmir Valley prevails since the killing of Jaish-e-Mohammed militant Burhan Wani on July 8. (ANI)
