J-K: Evacuated Nowshera residents complain of unavailability of basic amenities

Nowshera, (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 15 (ANI): The evacuated villagers in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera region on Monday complained of the unavailability of basic amenities at the government's make-shift tent camps, where approximately 2,500 people have been relocated after the area came under mortar shelling from across the border. The villagers live in a pathetic and underprivileged environment at the camps where they are deprived of the basic amenities such as electricity, water and food. "My son and I have been awake since three in the morning and have consumed nothing since then. The sarpanch Lekh Raj refuses to supply the edibles meant for us. I was denied of the milk for my infant despite the availability," Simran Kaur, Nowshera resident told ANI. The villagers urged the government to specifically look after the women and kids who are put up there at the camps. "We will die of bullets and mortars with respect but will not listen to the consistent swearing-in for asking the basic necessities for the survival," added Kaur. It has been four days that Nowshera residents have been accommodated at these camps and they are starving since then. The fans are dysfunctional due to no electricity supply and plethora of villagers use one water tanker to bathe right in open. "We vote out for the leaders to aid us in the crises situation. People residing at the borders are usually rustic and therefore have joint families and it is gut- wrenching to observe that government fails to provide enough ration per family on any given day," said another local. Homes of several border residents have been damaged and destroyed outright. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set up make-shift tent camps and arranged food for the dislocated. Three such camps have been established where a total of 193 families, comprising of round about 1,000 persons took shelter. Following the ceasefire violations, all schools in Nowshera, Qila Darhal and Manjakote have been closed indefinitely. (ANI)
