Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], April 15 (ANI): Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Spokesperson Manoj Pandey on Tuesday said that the Centre cannot impose the Waqf (Amendment) Act on the states, adding that his party does not support the act in any manner.
"We believe this Act is not right. It's wrong to impose the Waqf Act on states. A resolution has been brought against it," Pandey told ANI.
Commenting on the controversy surrounding Jharkhand Minister Hafizul Hasan's recent remarks, Pandey defended the minister, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of targeting individuals when lacking a substantive agenda.
"They (BJP) target someone when they don't have any agenda. Some words could have been here or there, but one must see the intention behind it. Those laying emphasis on this issue are silly," he added.
Earlier, on the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti, Jharkhand Minister Hafizul Hasan, during an interview with a news channel, said that "Shariat is over the Constitution" which sparked controversy.
Jharkhand's Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Babulal Marandi criticized state minister Hafizul Hasan for allegedly prioritizing Shariat over the Constitution, calling it an "insult" to Babasaheb Ambedkar's ideals.
In a post on X, Marandi urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and JMM chief Hemant Soren to immediately sack Hasan from the JMM-Congress coalition government's cabinet if they "have even a little faith in the Constitution."
"Giving priority to Shariat instead of Constitution by Hafizul Hasan, a minister in JMM Congress government is an insult to the thoughts of Babasaheb Ambedkar. If @RahulGandhi ji and @HemantSorenJMM ji, who roam around with the Constitution book in their hands, have even a little faith in the Constitution, then they should immediately dismiss Hafizul Hasan from the Cabinet. This country will be run by the Constitution, not by Sharia. BJP will protest in the entire state against those who try to impose Sharia on the country," he posted on X. (ANI)
