Aurangabad (Bihar) [India], October 23 (ANI): Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday indicated that the declaration of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav as Mahagathbandhan's CM candidate was a predictable step.
Choudhary stated that the people of Bihar know that Lalu Prasad Yadav wouldn't hand over the reins of the state to anyone other than his family members.
"This was understood from the very beginning. People of Bihar know that Lalu Prasad Yadav will never give the reins to anyone except his family," Samrat Choudhary told ANI.
The Bihar Deputy CM also called the step "anarchy" of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, stressing that the party kept on declaring its party candidates but remained adamant on the Chief Minister's place.
"They kept announcing candidates for all constituencies and simultaneously stood adamant on the CM's face. This is what anarchy is. Lalu Prasad Yadav wants only people from his family to be the CM," he said.
Earlier on Thursday, in a joint press conference of the Mahagathbandhan, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot announced that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav will be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Assembly elections in Bihar, scheduled to be held in two phases on November 6 and 11.
"He is a young person. He has a long future and the public will support him," Gehlot said.
The Congress leader stated that everyone should be concerned about the country's situation.
Gehlot said that people of Bihar want change as they struggle with multiple issues, including unemployment. He alleged that the way the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the Centre is operating is a "threat to democracy".
"It is obvious to get worried about the condition of the country and the state. The situation is serious. The way the NDA government operates is a threat to democracy. There is polarisation. Nobody knows in which direction the country is heading. If you criticise, you are sent to jail - it doesn't matter if you are a journalist or activist. It is our responsibility to keep in mind what the country wants. The country is watching Bihar. The issue of unemployment remains. People want change," he said. (ANI)
