New Delhi [India], September 15 (ANI): Reacting to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's statement that he will resign from his position in two days, CPI leader D Raja said it was an independent decision of Kejriwal and his party.
CPI leader D Raja stated, "Kejriwal has made two points--the union government has been using the ED, CBI, and other central agencies to target opposition parties. This is what our party and other INDIA bloc members have been saying. Kejriwal also mentioned that he would like to resign and return with a fresh mandate from the people. In a democracy, as we stand today, it is Kejriwal's and his party's prerogative to take any political decision. It is their independent decision. It is for Kejriwal and his party to outline their future course of action to the public; otherwise, other parties will continue to raise questions."
In a significant development, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he will resign from the post in two days and will not assume the position of Chief Minister again until the people of Delhi declare him "honest."
Kejriwal further stated that if the public votes for him, it would serve as a certificate of his integrity. He also expressed his intention to call for early polls alongside Maharashtra.
Addressing party workers at the AAP office, Kejriwal said, "I will resign from the position of Chief Minister in two days. I will not occupy the CM's chair until the people give their verdict. I will go door-to-door and not sit in the CM's office until I receive a clear mandate from the public. Elections are in a few months. If you believe Kejriwal is honest, vote for me, and I will resume as Chief Minister after the elections. If you think I am not, do not vote. Your vote will be a certificate of my honesty, and only then will I take the CM's post."
Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening, hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. (ANI)
