Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 5 (ANI): Following another death threat to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, Advocate Ujjwal Nikam stated on Tuesday that it is now evident that the Bishnoi gang is repeatedly involved in threatening Khan.
Speaking to ANI, Advocate Nikam also highlighted that under recent legislation, police can file chargesheets even against absconding accused, allowing the court to convict based on substantial evidence.
"It is now evident that the Bishnoi gang is continually issuing threats to the Bollywood actor. Once the police trace the source of these threats, they will initiate a case. Under the new legislation, the police can file a chargesheet even against absconding accused, and the court can convict them based on tangible evidence," he said.
Meanwhile, police reported that the latest threat message gives the actor two choices: apologise or pay Rs 5 crore to ensure his safety.
Mumbai Police's traffic control room received a threatening WhatsApp message last night, purportedly from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The message stated that if Salman Khan wanted to remain safe, he should either visit their temple to apologise or pay Rs 5 crore.
"If he does not comply, we will kill him; our gang remains active," read the message, which claimed to be from Lawrence Bishnoi's brother.
The police said the message was received on Monday, and an investigation is underway.
The process of registering the case is ongoing at Worli Police Station, with efforts to trace the phone number from which the message was sent, Mumbai Police confirmed.
This marks the second death threat Salman Khan has received in a week.
In an earlier threat also received by Mumbai Police's Traffic Control, a ransom of Rs 2 crore was demanded from the actor.
On October 24, Mumbai Police arrested a man from Jamshedpur for threatening Salman Khan in the name of Lawrence Bishnoi and demanding a ransom of Rs 5 crore.
This incident follows the recent murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Baba Siddique, former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader, was shot dead on October 12 by three assailants near the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique, in Mumbai's Nirmal Nagar area. (ANI)
