Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), [India], Mar 20 (ANI): Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday took a sarcastic jibe at PM Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party for describing the arrest of fugitive businessman Nirav Modi as an achievement and asked who let him flee?
"Ye achievement hai? Jaane kisne diya tha? (Is this an achievement? I wonder who let him flee in the first place?” Priyanka told media persons here on being asked if she considers it as an achievement of the BJP.
Priyanka’s response comes after the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday said the absconding diamond merchant Nirav Modi had been arrested in London and would be produced in the court later today.
Notably, one of the prime accused in the PNB scam in India, Modi is the subject of an extradition request by India, along with an Interpol Red Corner Notice being issued against him. Modi is the prime accused in Rs 13,000 crore PNB loan fraud case, along with his uncle Mehul Choksi.
While speaking to ANI, Priyanka showed the election manifesto issued by the BJP for Varanasi during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014 said, "Modi ji made eight promises, did he fulfill any? Not even one. This publicity politics is very easy and anyone can do that."
Earlier in the day, Priyanka said that the BJP has systematically attacked every institution in the last five years. "BJP has systematically attacked every institution in last five years. Including institution of which you are a part of (media). The Prime Minister should stop thinking that people are fools and understand that they see through all this.”
Priyanka was on a three-day long ‘Ganga Yatra’ from Prayagraj to Varanasi. Priyanka’s tour focused on ‘Sanchi Baat Priyanka ke Saath’ in which she talked to people during her 140 kilometres long travel on a steamer boat to Assi Ghat in Varanasi.
The Lok Sabha elections have been scheduled to start from April 11 and will go on till May 19 in seven phases. The polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in all seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. (ANI)
