New Delhi (India), Apr 30 (ANI): Mohinder Singh Gilzian, president of the Overseas wing of Congress in the USA, on Tuesday said their team had campaigned for the party in the elections held in southern states and are now preparing to focus on the states in north India.
"Our team from America was campaigning before the elections in Kerala, Andhra and Telangana. In the north, we will campaign in Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. We have arranged a bus for the tour from Uttar Pradesh to Himachal. We will ask people to make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister,” Mohinder said told ANI.
Manoj Sheoran, president of the Overseas wing of Congress in Australia said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government had failed to fulfil its promises in the past five years and therefore the people should vote for Congress to set things right.
"We will ask people to vote for Congress because in the last five years we have seen BJP and Modiji trying to destroy the pillars of democracy and engaging in divisive politics. Unemployment is still a big problem in India, farmers are not getting the right prices, no promises were fulfilled by the Modi government in these five years. The Congress, therefore, is the only choice in 2019,” said Manoj.
Virender Vashisht, secretary of Indian Overseas Wing of the party said their focus for the next few days will be on the states in the north and NRIs who are going to join the campaign process. He also added that NRIs would benefit immensely if Congress came to power and the results would start showing after May 23.
"We are focusing on the northern states in the upcoming days, we will be joined by more NRI volunteers in the coming days who are driven towards the cause. The NRIs will be looked after well when Congress forms the government, a separate NRI wing will be formed to look after their issues if we come in the centre,” said Virender.
Congress has called upon the members of the NRI community and given them the responsibility of campaigning for Rahul Gandhi and the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
