Indian origin bus driver burnt alive in Australia: Govt. assures action
New Delhi [India], Oct. 29 (ANI): Extending condolences to Indian-origin bus driver who was burnt to death in Brisbane, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday asserted that her ministry would take up the matter at the highest level with the Australian Government. "We will take this up at the highest level in the Australian Government. Our heartfelt condolences. @officeofssbadal @HarsimratBadal_," Swaraj tweeted. 29-year old Manmeet Alisher, a bus driver who aspired to become a singing star, died in the Australian city of Brisbane yesterday when a man hurled an incendiary device at him and set him alight in front of other passengers. As per reports, a 48-year-old man was arrested after the fatal attack on Alisher. The alleged attacker was among the people waiting at the bus stop. The members of Australia's Indian community paid tribute to Alisher, who was well known among the local Punjabis as a singer and promoter of showbiz events. The attack came just four weeks after the local authorities in Queensland announced a review aimed at stopping the increasing attacks on the bus drivers. (ANI)
