Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], November 6 (ANI): Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Wednesday extended his greetings to Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential polls and said that India-US relations do not depend on any individual as they have bipartisan support. He hoped that Trump will take a positive stance on all issues between India and America.
Pilot, a former union minister, said India and US have historical ties.
"India-US relations do not depend on any individual, no matter who is in the government, but both countries have historical relations. We are the largest democracy, America is the oldest democracy, and the relations we have built between the countries do not depend on who wins, but I wish the new President all the best and he will be able to face all the challenges. I believe that he will take a positive stance on all issues between India and America," Pilot told ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi were among leaders who greeted Donald Trump on his election victory.
"Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let's work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity," PM Modi said in a post on X.
Rahul Gandhi wished success to Donald Trump, who will begin his second term as US President.
"Congratulations on your victory, @realDonaldTrump! Wishing you success in your second term as US President. All the best to @KamalaHarris in her future endeavours," he said in a post on X.
According to CNN, Trump's projected win in battleground Wisconsin has put him over the top with 276 electoral votes as counting continues in some key states. A total of 270 electoral votes are needed to win the presidency
This will be only the second instance of a president serving two non-consecutive terms in the White House. This is only the second instance and the first in over 100 years of a leader winning the presidency after losing once. Grover Cleveland served as non-consecutive president in 1884 and 1892.
In his address, Trump expressed gratitude to the people and said he won't rest until he delivers a "strong, safe and prosperous America."
Republicans will win at least 50 seats in the Senate of the US Congress by the end of the elections, as estimated by Fox News. As per CNN projections, candidates from the Democratic Party are winning the elections for the governors in only three of the ten states where the counting is already underway. (ANI)
