Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 17 (ANI): The Opposition INDIA bloc kickstarted its election campaign from Mumbai's iconic Shivaji Park on Sunday with the leaders of the bloc hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre.
NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, who addressed the valedictory meeting of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Nyay Yatra, gave a call to the Opposition, asking them to "vow to oust BJP from power".
"Mahatma Gandhi gave 'Quit India' slogan from this city, today we (INDIA alliance) should vow to oust BJP from power...," he said.
Today morning, before the rally, Rahul Gandhi led a Nyay Sankalp Padyatra from Mani Bhavan to August Kranti Maidan, marking the end of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Several leaders including National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK Cheif MK Stalin, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge were present along with other senior leaders of the opposition.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav lauded Rahul Gandhi for the success of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, saying that the Congress MP commenced the yatra to save "India's Constitution, brotherhood and to defeat hatred".
"He (Rahul Gandhi) has tried to deliver a message which is quite significant in today's days...To save India's Constitution, and brotherhood and to defeat hatred, he commenced the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' and for that my heartfelt thanks to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party," Yadav said.
On Saturday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi concluded his 63-day-old 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' here by paying tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar at his memorial 'Chaityabhoomi' in central Mumbai and reading the Preamble of the Constitution.
The yatra, a mass outreach movement ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, had commenced from strife-torn Manipur on January 14. (ANI)
