India, Kenya sign MoU on cooperation in agriculture sector

New Delhi [India], Jan. 11 (ANI): India and Kenya have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the agriculture sector and allied sector and Line of Credit for USD100 million for agricultural mechanisation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta held delegation level talks and praised the strength of the re-invigorated partnership between the two countries, which serves to increase stability, prosperity, and security in the Indian Ocean region and in the Asia-Pacific. The two leaders reflected on the significant progress they have achieved in strengthening the bilateral relationship through resumption of high level exchanges. Prime Minister Modi in his meeting with President Kenyatta expressed gratitude for his leadership and friendship, since the first State visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Kenya in July 2016. This is the first state visit from Kenya to India, since 1981. Discussions were held between the two on key elements of bilateral relationship including increasing cooperation in defence and maritime security, enhancing trade and investment relationship and counter-terrorism. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's commitment as Africa's development partner including Kenya. Both leaders acknowledged the unique nature of India-Kenya relationship and stressed the importance of continuing the momentum of high level exchanges and a strong development partnership delivering benefits, jobs and win-win solutions for people in both countries and in the Indian Ocean region. Key sectors discussed during the meeting were maritime security and surveillance, counter-terrorism, disrupting terrorist networks, counter-narcotics and human trafficking, agriculture, health, supporting Kenya's development through Lines of Credit, digital and cash-less economy, e-Governance, procurement of pulses, sports, renewable energy especially International Solar Alliance, blue economy, comprehensive convention on terrorism and reforms of international institutions including the United Nations. President Kenyatta also held meetings with the President and Vice President. He is expected to attend a business forum in Delhi tomorrow. (ANI)
