India-Italy to build Centres of Excellence around cultural heritage, research

New Delhi [India], Oct 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that India and Italy will jointly build Centres of Excellence around key areas like cultural heritage, research and other technical fields.

New Delhi [India], Oct 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that India and Italy will jointly build Centres of Excellence around key areas like cultural heritage, research and other technical fields.
Delivering the valedictory address at the India-Italy Technology Summit here, Prime Minister Modi said, “I am glad to announce that both the countries will together build Centres of Excellence around key areas like cultural heritage, research and other technical areas. India is one of the fastest growing economies. Italy is known for its manufacturing quality and scientific know-how. Together we can help to address the world challenges through research and innovation collaboration." 
The Prime Minister also said that while science is universal, technology has to be local. "Our goal to ensure that results of the research and development programmes do not get limited to research centres only, but reach the public,” he elaborated.
Announcing the launch of the next phase of the India-Italy bilateral industrial research and development cooperation program, Prime Minister Modi said that “Know-How” must be converted to “Show-How”. He also noted that joining hands in initiatives like Department of Science and Technology (DST)’s SHRI for preservation and restoration of cultural heritage of the two old civilisations can boost technology, tourism and history.
The Prime Minister emphasised on bringing together high-quality research conducted in the two countries for developing tech solutions to make the lives of people from both countries better.
“Our institute of Scientific research SHRI will enable great direction to our technological growth. I am looking forward to tech transfers, market enhancement and collaboration between India and Italy. Know-How must be converted to Show-How. We have agreed upon a Joint Commission between the two countries between CEOs and advancing a fast-track growth,” the Prime Minister said,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi also revealed that India is now taking IT software power to the next level and insisting on developing technological temperament from scientific temper through the Atal Innovation Mission.
The Prime Minister informed that India and Italy have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of LAD - Life Style Accessories Design - and there will be a special focus on the leather sector, transportation and automobile design.
He further said that technology is one of the most important elements for “ease of living”, adding that more than 300 central and state government services have been brought under a platform through the Umang App.
The India-Italy Technology Summit was organised by the DST in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). (ANI)
