India is a university of tolerance: Rajnath Singh at All India Christian Council
New Delhi [India], Oct. 14 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh attended the All India Christian Council on Friday and spoke on religious tolerance and terrorism. He called India a "University of Tolerance" as it has high tolerance for different religions. He also added that terrorism affects all countries and the global community should fight it together. "All sects of Islam are found in India. All the important religions of the world are found in India. Even if you leave others out, you will find Jews, Parsis in India and everyone have the freedom the practice their own religion. That is why I say it won't be an exaggeration to call India an University of tolerance, because tolerance is important for peaceful existence," Singh said. "Even when India was divided on the basis of religion, we did not allow it to become a theocratic nation, but India is a secular state," he added. Addressing the gathering, Singh said, "We have a lot of challenges. When it comes to terrorism, if a nation makes it a part of state policy it is very unfortunate. We might have differences in our thinking, but do we need to take the help of guns to resolve these differences. If we have differences, we can sit and resolve those issues." "Terrorism not only affects India, but many other countries and the entire global community should come together to fight terrorism," he added. (ANI)
