India faces far more serious version of state-sponsored terrorism than other countries: Navy Chief

New Delhi [India], March 5 (ANI): Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba on Tuesday asserted that "India faces a far more serious version of state-sponsored terrorism than other countries".
He highlighted the threats being faced by India in the Indo-Pacific region and said terrorists have been quickly evolving and the Indian security establishment has been continuously working to combat the new challenges.
"The Indo-pacific region has witnessed multiple forms of terrorism in recent years and few countries in this part of the world have been spared by this cause. Global nature which terrorism has acquired in recent times has further enhanced the scope of this threat," Lanba stated while speaking at the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2019 in New Delhi.
Speaking about the February 14 Pulwama attack orchestrated by the Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, he said, "We have all witnessed the horrific scale of extremists attack in Indian state of J&K, just three weeks ago. This violence was perpetrated by extremists, aided by a state which seeks to destabilise India."
India had carried out air-strikes on 26 February in Pakistan's Balakot on to target a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) training camp in Pakistan after a JeM suicide bomber-led attack killed 40 CRPF jawans in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February. Thereafter, an aerial batter on the LoC ensued between the two nations on 27 February in which one MiG-21 and a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet were shot down.
The navy chief also underlined that there are reports of terrorists being trained to carry out operations in various modus operandi including through the medium of the sea.
India faced a terror attack through the seas in 2008 when Pakistan trained terrorists attained Mumbai. The event referred to as the 26/11 Mumbai attack remains one of the deadliest strikes by terrorists on India. (ANI)
