India conducts surgical strikes along LoC, destroys Pakistan terror launch pads
New Delhi [India], Sept. 29 (ANI): The Indian Army yesterday conducted surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC), confirmed Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) on Thursday. Addressing a press briefing, Lt. Gen. Singh said, "The Indian Army conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads on the LoC in which significant casualties have been caused. The motive of this operation was to hit out at the terrorists who were planning to infiltrate into our territory. We don't have a plan to further conduct such strikes. India has spoken to Pakistan. I spoke to the Pakistan DGMO, shared our concerns and told him that we conducted surgical strikes last night." However, there were no Indian casualties during the surgical strikes that were carried out in Pakistan territory. The press conference was jointly conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. "It has been a serious matter of concern that there has been continuing and increasing infiltrations by terrorists across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. This is reflected in the terrorist attacks at Poonch and Uri on 11th and 18th of September respectively. Almost 20 infiltrations attempt have been foiled by the Indian Army successfully this year. During these attacks and infiltration attempts, we have recovered items, including global positioning systems and stores which have had Pakistani markings," he added. A surgical strike is a military attack which results in, or is intended to result in, or is claimed to have resulted in only damage to the intended legitimate military target, and no or minimal collateral damage to surrounding structures, vehicles, buildings, or the general public infrastructure and utilities. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to discuss the ceasefire violations along the Line of Control. Also present at the meeting were Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, NSA Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar. Prime Minister Modi was also scheduled to hold a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the Most Favoured Nation status granted to Pakistan, but that meeting has now been rescheduled for next week.
