Independence Day: Rajnath chairs high-level security review meet

New Delhi, Aug. 14 (ANI): Ahead of India's 70th Independence Day celebrations across the country, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the security on the crucial day, especially in the national capital.

New Delhi, Aug. 14 (ANI): Ahead of India's 70th Independence Day celebrations across the country, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the security on the crucial day, especially in the national capital. National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, Intelligence Bureau (IB) director Dineshwar Sharma, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Chief Rajinder Khanna and Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma were present for the meeting at the Home Minister's residence here. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the country ahead of Independence Day celebrations. According to reports, Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma has cancelled leaves of all police officials for 15 August and all cops have been directed to keep sufficient bullet-proof jackets in every PCR van. Over 9,000 men will be deployed around the fort and the Delhi Metro tunnel under the Red Fort will be shut. The Delhi police has also issued an order prohibiting aerial activities till the second week of October. The Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation has been turned into the fortress as a multi-layer security has been deployed around the area A multi-layer security blanket has been thrown around the Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation, and adjoining areas ahead of the Independence Day. More than 8,000 security personnel, including 5,000 men from Delhi Police have been deployed to secure the perimeters of the venue which is to be graced by dignitaries, diplomats and the public.
