"Incumbent upon govt to call Parliament session": Congress' Karti Chidambaram

"We support Operation Sindoor unconditionally. We understand that all the facts can't be laid out on the table immediately because of issues of national security. However, it is incumbent upon the government to call for a short session of the Parliament and to inform the nation through the house about the events post-Pahalgam, including what led to the security failure (in Pahalgam)," Chidambaram told ANI.

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 20 (ANI): The Congress continues to raise doubuts over the chain of events leading to cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Tuesday demanded a special parliamentary session to be convened to brief the nation about the "security failure" during the recent terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians.
He further stated that asking questions was natural in a functioning parliamentary democracy while acknowledging that some questions may not be answered openly due to national security issues. Chidambaram asserted that it was necessary for the centre to make a statement in the Parliament.
"Some legitimate questions will be asked. We understand that some can be answered openly, and some can't be. However, questions will be asked, and that's natural in a functioning parliamentary democracy. It is necessary that the government comes and makes a statement on the floor of the house...A two-day session can be held where the Prime Minister and Defence Minister can take the house into confidence," he added.
Earlier, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government, alleging that the recent move to send all-party delegations across the globe reflects a "momentary, hypocritical, and opportunistic" shift in India's diplomatic approach.
In a post on X, Jairam alleged that the BJP's "poisonous politics at home" has damaged India's global image.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharpened its attack on Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi following his remarks accusing External Affairs Minister Jaishankar of being silent on how many aircraft the Indian Air Force lost during Operation Sindoor.
The ruling party has accused the Congress MP of speaking the "language of Pakistan" after his remarks. (ANI)
