Dumka (Jharkhand) [India], May 27 (ANI): Asserting that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will win all 14 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana Soren on Monday compared Bharatiya Janata Party with Bririshers, "who were known for looting people."
She also vented her ire on BJP for calling them Vanvasi instead of Adivasi adding that they take pride in their jal, jungle and zameen, calling Adivasis as true revolutionaries, who fought against the Britishers when nobody thought to do so.
"The people of Jharkhand have made up their minds to support the candidates of the INDIA bloc. I cannot say about the country, but in Jharkhand, we are winning all 14 seats..." she said.
"We are fulfilling our political obligations with all honesty. Election campaigning is on in full swing... Dumka has been the stronghold of JMM and we are going to win here again," she added.
Kalpana formally made an entry into politics on March 4, this year. In the last few months, she has become a key face of the INDIA bloc in Jharkhand. She is contesting the bypoll from Gandey Assembly seat on a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) ticket.
Launching an attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party, she said, "BJP feels irritated to even utter the word Adivasi. They don't even call us Adivasi. They call us Vanvasi. But we have been here since the beginning. We take pride in our jal, jungle and zameen. Our great ancestors were true revolutionaries. They fought against the Britishers even when nobody thought to do so. We have the same blood in our veins. BJP is another form of British to loot people."
Notably, the Santhal revolt (also known as the Hul revolt ) started on 30th June 1855, with the help of prominent leaders like Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand, and Bhairav, and also their two sisters Phulo and Jhano.
The depressed and anguished Santhals engaged in guerrilla warfare against the Britishers and formed their own troops which included the farmers, villagers, and the women. In this quest, they were able to capture large parts of land including Rajmahal Hills, Bhagalpur district, and Birbhum.
Regarding Kalpana Soren's statement about comparing BJP with Britishers, Jharkhand BJP chief, Babulal Marandi said, "The Congress party with which they have formed an alliance, their founders were Britishers...Congress party is a remnant of the British...BJP which was earlier JanSangh, was founded by leaders of India on Indian soil."
Notably, in 2019, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 12 seats in Jharkhand, with the BJP alone winning 11. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress got one seat each. (ANI)
