Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Nov. 21 (ANI): Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son and party vice president Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attended the inauguration of an exhibition on the birth centenary celebration of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi here on Monday evening. Recalling Indira Gandhi's "remarkable" political career, the Congress president said Indiraji was elected as the Prime Minister for the first time in 1976, and for the next 16 years she fought with difficult challenges such as difficult economic problems, political challenges, foreign policies, and the challenges posed by war and terrorism. "In all these conditions, her faith remained intact. She fought injustice. However, what was most remarkable is her dedication to the citizen and due to which she earned unshakeable trust of the people" said Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law Sonia. Indira Gandhi was born on November 19, 1917, in Allahabad to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal and Kamla Nehru. Indira Gandhi was India's third prime minister from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984 by her bodyguards. She survived party in-fighting and emerged as a popular leader. Ousted from power in 1977, Gandhi was re-elected as Prime Minister in 1980. Earlier, to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday launched a website devoted to here and set up by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust at Gandhi's former residence on 1, Safdarjung Road, here.
