Imploding SP a signal to try Congress out again in UP: Singhvi
New Delhi, Oct.24 (ANI): The Congress party on Monday said that it saw the crisis within the Samajwadi Party (SP) as a sign that the people of Uttar Pradesh must give it a chance at running the state administration again with a 'fresh look and a fresh approach'. Congress Rajya Sabha MP and spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "An excessive focus on ego, tussles between family members has led to this sad state of affairs in that party." "The Congress Party sees this as their (SP) internal affair, but in the context of the UP elections; it has been the Congress' stand that for over 27-30 years, when the people of UP have tried and tested every political party, in particular the BJP, SP, BSP and don't have any element to blame the Congress for the mis-governance of that the state; the Congress must get good chance this time," he added. Noting that the 'Samajwadi Party is clearly imploding", Singhvi said "Mulayam Singh Yadav's party seems to be in self destructive mode a few months before the elections." "I think it is clear that this is not merely the beginning, but the middle of the end for the Samajwadi Party," he added. The Congress leader further added that "an excessive focus on ego, tussles and family members has led to the sad state of affairs for that party." In a very dramatic turn of events on Sunday, Ramgopal was expelled from the party by Mulayam Singh Yadav. Announcing the decision, state party chief Shivpal Singh Yadav levelled serious charges of corruption, manipulation and sabotage against the former. He accused Ramgopal Yadav of conniving with the BJP to harm the Samajwadi Party. Prior to this, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav sacked four of his cabinet ministers, including Shivpal Yadav. Akhilesh ruled out deserting the party, describing himself as the true heir to his father's political legacy. He also categorically stated that Amar Singh is guilty of anti-party activities and that he would not tolerate any sympathiser of the latter. (ANI)
