"Implementation is very difficult": BJP's Vijay Goel on SC's revised verdict on stray dogs

New Delhi [India], August 23 (ANI): BJP leader Vijay Goel on Saturday expressed concerns over the implementation of the Supreme Court's directives that stray dogs would be released after sterilisation and immunisation, and dedicated areas for their feeding would be created.
Speaking to reporters here, the BJP leader expressed concerns over the "2000 dog bite" cases reported daily and asked if the Supreme Court or NGOs fighting for stray dogs would take responsibility for them.
Goel said, "I welcome the Supreme Court's order, but its implementation is very difficult. There are more than 12 crore dogs in the country, and more than 10 lakh dogs in Delhi alone. Every day, 2000 dog bite cases are reported. The Supreme Court has said that every dog should be sterilised and vaccinated... If the dogs bite, will it be the responsibility of the Supreme Court or of those NGOs who shouted and screamed that these stray dogs should remain on the streets?..."
Criticising the order, Goel stated that the Supreme Court, in its modified decision, has given "more importance to stray dogs" than to the human race.
"Ultimately, they have given more importance to these stray dogs than to the human race. Humans are afraid of giving birth to children, but dogs give birth to four puppies at a time. In the times to come, this will become a city of dogs. Man will go inside their houses due to fear, and dogs will roam freely..." he said.
On Friday, the Supreme Court revised its earlier August 11 order on stray animals and ordered their release following sterilisation and immunisation. The Supreme Court clarified that stray dogs infected with rabies or showing aggressive behaviour will not be released back and will be kept separately.
"Stray dogs will be released back to the same area after sterilisation and immunisation, except those infected with rabies or exhibiting aggressive behaviour," the court ordered.
The court ordered that no public feeding of dogs will be allowed, and dedicated feeding spaces for stray dogs will be created. It ordered the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) to create feeding areas in municipal wards. It also noted that animal lovers can submit an application to the MCD for the adoption of dogs. (ANI)
