Pune (Maharashtra) [India], March 6 (ANI): After the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) announced Sunetra Pawar, wife of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, as its candidate from Baramati, Sunetra, while talking to people at an event held on Wednesday, sought support from the public.
"If you (the people of Baramati Lok Sabha constituency) support us, we will work to solve your problems," she said.
Sunetra emphasised the work done by her husband, Ajit Pawar, and said she is proud of her husband for his work on such a large scale.
"I feel proud of Ajit Pawar when I look at his work done on such a large scale. I feel that he has always tried to reach out to the last person and solve their problems," she added.
"I too will try my best to address your problems and issues," she assured.
Until now, "Dada" (as Ajit Pawar is called by his supporters) was working for them, and "my role will be to convey (people's concerns) to him," she said.
"If you give us a chance, both of us (Ajit Pawar and Sunetra Pawar) will try to solve your problems, I am saying this because yesterday my name was declared as the candidate for our Baramati," she concluded.
Sunetra Pawar's candidature had been rumoured for the past few weeks as she had been travelling to different parts of the constituency and meeting workers and supporters.
Notably, Sunetra Pawar is the first candidate announced by the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party for the Lok Sabha polls.
The Baramati seat is currently held by Ajit Pawar's cousin Supriya Sule, a leader of the Sharad Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party. Sule has been an MP from Baramati since 2009. The seat is considered a stronghold of the Pawar family with Sharad Pawar having held it from 1996 to 2009. (ANI)
