Koraput (Odisha) [India], Mar 8 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday promised that his party will ensure the passage of Women’s Reservation Bill if voted to power at the Centre in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, adding the party will strive for a policy of "zero tolerance" towards atrocities on women.
"If voted to power, we will pass women’s reservation bill. We will ensure the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, if voted to power. Our approach is zero tolerance towards atrocities against women," Rahul said while addressing a public rally here on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Talking about the welfare of women in Odisha which will be going to state assembly polls in a few months' time, Gandhi said if the Congress is voted to power in the state, all women would be provided free education, be it in technical or any other field, either in school or college.
"We have taken few decisions in our manifesto for the welfare of women of Odisha. For women's safety, a special officer will be posted in every panchayat. A financial corporation will be formed to assist small and medium women entrepreneurs. When we form the government, we will provide free education to every girl in Odisha. We will provide Rs 2,000 widow allowance and financial assistance for marriage of every poor woman," the Congress president said.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi government over allegedly helping few businessmen in the country, Gandhi said, "If Narendra Modi can give Rs 3 lakh crore to 15 rich people, the Congress party will also give money to the poor."
Continuing his tirade against Modi, the Congress scion claimed that the Prime Minister tried to undo the Land Acquisition Bill thrice but the Congress party stopped him.
"In Chhattisgarh's Bastar, land acquired by TATA was left unused for 10 years. When we formed the government, we returned the land to the adivasis. This is your right. Thrice, Chowkidar tried to undo the Land Acquisition Bill and we stopped him every time. But, today in the BJP states, the law is weakened and land is acquired from adivasis and farmers without consent," Rahul said. (ANI)
