Patna (Bihar) [India], October 31 (ANI): Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav, on Friday condemned the recent violence in Mokama that claimed the life of a Jan Suraaj supporter, Dularchand Yadav, alleging that political candidates are being increasingly targeted during the ongoing Bihar election campaign and accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies of promoting criminal elements in politics.
The Purnea MP criticised the BJP government on the rising violence across states, asking if this is not a big goon state, then what is it?
Speaking to ANI on the incident, Yadav said, "Candidates are being attacked continuously. "You have attacked the candidates from outside. If this is not a big goon state, then what is it? Why is the same terror named in every incident? Why are criminals given a ticket? Will the party not work without mafias?"
He further claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners have allotted "60 per cent of their tickets to criminals," while asserting that the Congress has refrained from fielding candidates with criminal backgrounds or family connections.
"There are no tickets to mafias or family members in Congress. BJP and its allies have given 60 per cent of the tickets to criminals," Yadav said.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday sought a detailed report from the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the murder of Dularchand Yadav in Mokama.
Dularchand Yadav was killed during firing between the two sides while campaigning for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in Mokama yesterday.
Earlier today, Patna Rural SP Vikram Sihag said that three FIRs have been registered in the Mokama murder case.
"In a recent incident involving stone-throwing and attacks, three FIRs have been registered. The deceased's body was taken for last rites after the post-mortem, heading back to their home and then to the ghat. Continuous deployment is ongoing. The post-mortem on the deceased was conducted by three doctors of the medical board," Sihag said.
"A total of five accused have been identified by the deceased's grandson, while six accused have been named in another application. The police have registered cases against unidentified individuals," Sihag added.
Patna Rural SP further added that two arrests have been made so far related to the stone-throwing incident at the scene, and the investigation is being continued by utilising various evidence and other testimonies.
"The post-mortem report is expected tomorrow, which will clarify the cause of death. Prime facie, initial findings indicate a single bullet mark on the body," Sihag added.
Earlier today, the body of Dularchand Yadav was taken for postmortem to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Barh under tight security. A large number of police personnel were also deployed along the route.
Large numbers of Dularchand's supporters gathered outside the hospital, staging protests. His remains arrived at his residence after the postmortem.
Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Friday condemned the killing of Dularchand Yadav in Mokama and held the administration responsible for the incident, calling it a clear failure of law and order in the state. (ANI)
