If Sasikala is found guilty she would definitely be put in jail: Swamy

New Delhi [India] Feb. 13 (ANI): Expressing his opinion on AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala Natarajan's disproportionate assets case which is to be heard tomorrow, Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday said that if the former is found guilty she would definitely be put in jail. "I have been convinced from day one that they are guilty and they will be convicted. But if she is found guilty then she will definitely go to jail. Whether she will be disqualified from contesting the elections again, that would depend on whether the conviction is for more than four years," Swamy told ANI. He added that there are some technical questions which the court has to deal with. "The question is whether the conspiracy under which Sasikala has been brought in and the prevention against corruption act has been applied. Now that Jayalalithaa is dead, whether the conspiracy is still a valid charge and if it is under the prevention against corruption act or would it be under the IPC, this is one Constitutional questions," he added. He further said that the Karnataka High Court is saying that there are disproportionate assets but it is only 10 percent more and which former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and others did not appeal against. "They did not say that 'we do not agree that we have 10 per cent extra disproportionate assets'. Now if that rule of 10 per cent does not lead to conviction of the HC and is set aside by the Supreme Court then the conviction as per the trial court verdict will prevail," Swamy added. The Supreme Court will pronounce tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. the much-awaited judgment in a disproportionate assets case, in which Jayalalithaa and Sasikala were accused. Jayalalithaa, Sasikala and her relatives V. N. Sudhakaran and Elavarasi were accused of allegedly amassing disproportionate asserts to the tune of Rs. 66.65 crore during her first term as Chief Minister from 1991 to 1996. They were also held guilty by the trial court and sentenced to four years with a fine of Rs. 10 crore each. A PIL has been filed in the apex court against Sasikala seeking to restrain her from being sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister till it decides the DA case against her. This matter is listed for hearing on February 17. (ANI)
