New Delhi [India], September 30 (ANI): Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Tuesday said that Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh has always been a part of the NDA alliance, and if he joins the BJP, it will only benefit the alliance further.
Speaking to reporters, Paswan said, "He was already a part of the alliance. Undoubtedly, his contesting as an independent candidate during the elections raised concerns within the alliance. This had caused the greatest harm to Upendra Kushwaha. But now that they have met, any differences must have been resolved. I have known Pawan for a long time. If he joins, the alliance will only benefit further."
Speaking on the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, he said, "Many issues like seat sharing are pending before our Central Parliamentary Board. They will take the final decision. First, it is essential to clarify the number of seats the LJP (Ram Vilas) will contest on and what the alliance will comprise of... When there is a sense of clarity on all these issues, it will also be clear whether I will contest the assembly elections or not..."
His remarks came after Pawan Singh met Union Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda at his residence in the national capital, over a year after being expelled from the BJP.
Asked about whether he will join the BJP again, Singh said, "When did we separate? We are together."
Notably, this visit precedes the Bihar assembly elections, which are expected to take place in October or November this year.
Pawan Singh was a member of Bharatiya Janata Party but was expelled in 2024 due to his anti-party activities.
The BJP had expelled him for running as an independent candidate in the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency, defying the party's official candidate from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Pawan Singh had announced his intention to contest the Karakat seat independently, a move that led to his expulsion.
Meanwhile, political activity in Bihar has intensified with leaders trading barbs against each other ahead of the polls.
The primary contest is between the incumbent National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and the Mahagathbandhan led by the RJD.
In the current Bihar Assembly, comprising 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 members, with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U) having 45, HAM(S) having 4, and the support of 2 Independent Candidates. (ANI)
