New Delhi [India], April 20 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Saturday slammed the Congress party over the Hubballi murder incident and said that the manner in which women are being killed in Karnataka in broad daylight, it seems "criminals are having a free run in the Congress government".
The Congress government in Karnataka is under severe pressure on law and order in the state after the twenty-four-year-old daughter of a Congress corporator was stabbed to death on the college campus in Hubballi.
Speaking to ANI, Shehzad Poonawalla said, "Today, in Karnataka, what we are seeing is the complete destruction of law and order in the last few weeks particularly and ever since the Congress has come. We see murders taking place daily and the manner in which women are being killed in broad daylight, molested and attacked as criminals have free run in the Congress government."
Poonawalla further slammed the Karnataka government for not taking strong action against the accused in the case.
"In this brutal gruesome incident, where the girl has been killed by the boy, instead of taking strong action against him and his mindset, we see Congress is busy shielding his mindset. If the Congress leader's daughter is not safe, who will be safe in Karnataka?" he said.
Speaking on the incident, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar informed that an FIR had been registered and the accused had been apprehended within an hour. The accused has been sent to judicial custody.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Hubballi campus murder occurred due to personal reasons. The CM added that the law and order situation in Karnataka is good and that it is their duty to maintain it.
On the Hubballi murder incident, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, "This is not a case of love jihad. I condemn the incident. We have arrested the culprit, the investigation is going on seriously and we will punish the culprit. We have taken care of law and order seriously to maintain peace and harmony. BJP is using this issue for politics, it is condemnable that a political party (BJP) is using the murder of a girl for political purposes."
Meanwhile, Police detained ABVP workers on Saturday who were protesting outside the residence of Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara over the Hubballi murder incident. (ANI)
