If comes to power, BJP will remove reservation for underprivileged: Mayawati
Gonda (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Feb. 21 (ANI): In Uttar Pradesh, where minority vote plays a key role in deciding its political fate, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) Supremo Mayawati, while addressing a rally in Gonda, on Tuesday said that if a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government is formed in the state it will remove the provision of reservation for dalits. "If in these elections, by any chance, a BJP-led government comes to power, it will, by following its RSS agenda, either remove reservation for the backward classes or make it ineffective," said she. Expressing remorse over the treatment extended to dalits, tribals and other backward classes, the BSP supremo said that they have been exploited by the divisive ideology of BJP. "In the social sphere, the BJP government, through its casteist ideology, has heavily exploited the dalits, tribals and other backward classes. They have been exploited at each level of societal organisation and a proof of it is Rohith Vemula case," said BSP chief. Similar statements were made by the politician earlier in the day when she lashed out on Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi for comparing the number of cremation grounds with that of graveyards in UP. "The BJP has brought politics to its lowest level possible in the country and I don't think it is correct. It is the most communal party in the whole country. Had it not been so casteist, the Rohit Vemula case would not have happened in Hyderabad. Why don't the other communities face the same issue? Why do only the Dalits have to suffer? Not only is the BJP communal, it is anti-secular too," she said. Mayawati had also dubbed Modi as a 'negative dalit man'. (ANI)
