Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], January 24 (ANI): After suffering a minor injury to her forehead in an accident involving her vehicle, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said a speeding car suddenly appeared in front of her's, adding that she wouldn't have survived had the driver not applied the hand brake.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the ruling Trinamool Congress supremo said, "I can sense a fever coming. I am also feeling cold. A vehicle suddenly appeared in front of my car out of nowhere. It was speeding. I wouldn't have survived had my driver not pressed the hands brake on time. My head hit the dashboard and suffered an injury to the forehead."
The chief minister said she refused to the hospital, adding that the police were probing the incident.
"The police are doing their job. I will not go to the hospital. I am cold and sense a fever coming. I am heading home," the chief minister added.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Mamata sustained a cut to her forehead after her car abruptly halted to avoid a collision with another vehicle while returning from Burdwan to Kolkata.
Due to adverse weather conditions, she chose to return by road instead of a helicopter.
After receiving word of the incident, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wished the West Bengal CM a speedy recovery.
"We have just heard of the injury suffered by Mamata Banerjee-ji in a car accident. We wish her a full and speedy recovery. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is looking forward to entering West Bengal tomorrow late morning. January 26 and 27th being break days, and the Yatra will resume on the 28th," Ramesh posted on X.
Earlier, while campaigning for the 2021 Assembly elections in the state, the TMC Supremo suffered an injury after a car door jammed her leg.
She was briefly admitted to a hospital before campaigning in a wheelchair, with her injured leg in a cast. (ANI)
